Applying for a job at FINTRAC

At FINTRAC we balance an agile recruitment process, while maintaining our commitment to the integrity of FINTRAC’s staffing guiding principles of: competency, non-partisanship, fairness, transparency, inclusiveness and efficiency.

FINTRAC’s hiring process

Our objective is to attract the highest calibre of talent from both the public and private sectors.

In order to ensure a highly competent, diverse, and inclusive workforce, we rely on a variety of assessment tools and methods that help us determine who possesses the right talent for the position and the organization.

Requests for accommodation: We are committed to inclusive, barrier-free selection processes and work environments. This commitment begins with our hiring process. If you are contacted in relation to a job opportunity or assessment, please advise us in a timely fashion of any accommodation measures required to enable you to be assessed in a fair and equitable manner.

Our process includes several important stages in order to best assess each candidate’s skills, knowledge, and previous experience. We continually optimize our approaches to enhance efficiency, both for the organization and for candidates.

It is important to note that the order of steps listed below may change based on the needs of a particular process.

1. Application

The majority of our externally advertised job opportunities are posted on GC Jobs. You must submit your application online through this platform. This is your opportunity to distinguish yourself from other candidates—remember to be clear and concise, and to address all the required (“need to have” and “nice to have”) qualifications in full. We encourage applicants to voluntarily self-identify when submitting their applicants, if they are members of a designated group (a woman, an Indigenous person, a person with a disability, and/or a member of a visible minority group). For certain opportunities, selection may be limited to members of one or more of these employment equity groups.

2. Assessing talent

A holistic and inclusive approach to assessing the “need to have” and “nice to have” qualifications identified in the advertisement may include a variety of tools and methods to be administered virtually or in person. Depending on the position or positions to be filled, assessments may also include second language evaluations.

3. Security and suitability assessment

To be considered for employment, candidates must be eligible for a Top Secret security clearance to our standards. Our process includes a suitability interview, a credit and financial check, fingerprinting, and a background investigation examining at least the last 10 years. Please see our Security and suitability requirements for details.

4. Selection decision

Once assessments are complete, the talent assessment committee will determine which candidate possesses the right talent for the position and the organisation. Following the selection decision, an offer of employment is made to the selected candidate or candidates.

The length of time required to complete a process varies, depending on the number and types of positions to be filled, the number of candidates, the number of and time required for assessments, and the availability of the candidates.
